This is awesome! I personally mostly use pixabay because I didn’t know that there were so many others! Thank you very much for the awesome list, it is always important to know about the copyright terms because no one wants to get sued. Canvas also has some decent pictures for free, but mostly they just want you to buy them for $1

    • Anh Nguyen

Hey Adriana, yes, it’s amazing how many great folks are offering their stocks for free. 🙂 I personally love Canvas and found their photos to be very reasonably priced, extremely cheap considering any other stock photo sites.

Wowwww. I can only imagine how long it took you to research and make this blog post. I thought I found the best resource for free pictures on an article that mentioned 25 sites and you more then doubled that. Thank you for doing this and saving bloggers the potential legal nightmare it is to use pictures that are not yours. I bookmarked this for myself 😀 Thanks again

Awesome article, I’ve always been impressed by your posts, you inspire me to write much better. 😀 Keep writing the good write And, I’ll be sure to see you again here soon!

    • Anh Nguyen

I think it took me around half a month tracking the stock photo sites and put them together in an excel sheet. You can say I’m a big nerd in the art of creating content. I can even spend up to 2 months writing one post. Ha ha.

And aww, thanks Riaz. I can say the same thing about you, your writing is so good and detailed that inspires me every time. 😛

  9. Tebatso Kekana

Thank you for this awesome and way informative article post Anh! Getting good and relevant imagery can be really feel like a scary stage especially when it’s your first time doing it.

Creating your own images using free image editing software can really be a challenge and almost impossible thing to do. I definitely recommend this article to anybody who is having a touch time figuring out how to find good images for their blog. Thanks again Anh!

    • Anh Nguyen

Aww, thanks Tebatso! Have you tried using Canva.com? I think it’s a great and easy to use tool to make awesome graphics (I even used it to make an infographic!).

I have been searching the net for some of the best places for free images for my blog, and there are just so many to choose from, that I didn’t know which ones to use.

I appreciate the image resources you have given me here, and they sound really great. I will definitely check them out for some free photos.

    Cheers, Anh!

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome, Neil! I usually take photos from Pexels, they have the best compilation.

  12. Njogah Njihia

Thanks Anh for the comprehensive list of photo resources. Many online businesses would pay money for this kind of information!

I would like to know something; which among the ones on the list do you consider among the best? Or the most recommended ones? I have only used free images before, and I would like to get another one, that I will move on to.

  13. Nusrat

I’ve just bookmarked this site. What a treasure I’ve just found! I can get all my images from your recommendations here and no longer need to waste time searching online for hours and hours. What a time saver!

What I particularly like are that the images are so clear and distinct in quality, unlike some of the other free images I have come across.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Anh Nguyen

Aw, thanks for letting me know Nusrat!

  14. Xin Zhang

    Hello Ahn,

Give yourself a high 5 or a pat on the back! These are great sites with wonderful photos. I can really use pictures like this in my blogs. I have really been deficient in having good, relevant images in some of my blogs. It is tedious to say the least trying to find images to use in posts. So, I end up using less images than I would ideally.

Now, thanks to you, I shouldn’t have this problem. You have done a wonderful job compiling this list and writing the descriptions. I will use this again and again!

    Thanks so much.

Now I will share this on Twitter, G+ and Pinterest.

    Sincerely,

    Xin

    • Anh Nguyen

I am so happy you found the post helpful Xin! I know how hard it can be to find great pictures while being on budget (paid stocks are so expensive!).

  15. John

    WOW!
Thanks so much for this awesome resource for free stock photo sites.
I always have trouble finding good quality images for my website blog.
I didn’t realise that there are so many options out there!
Thanks again, I am going to start checking out some of these sites right away 🙂 .
    ~John

    • Anh Nguyen

      Always happy to help, John!

  16. Neil

    Hey Anh

Lately I have been struggling to find free photos for my blog posts. I’m so thankful to you for sharing these 65 stock photo sites, and now I’m very spoiled for choice. 🙂

There are some awesome image resources, and I’m gonna check them out one-by-one to find the photos I really want for my website.

    You have been most helpful!

    Neil

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome, Neil. Hope you found the photos you are looking for. 😉

  17. JP

Dude, freaking awesome post. I was actually looking of some sites like this as I’m running some social media accounts for a company. I’ve heard of pixels, but all these other sites are awesome. Very relevant information. Keep up the good work, and I’m looking forward to some new posts.

    • Anh Nguyen

Thanks JP! Pexels is also my favorite (and only) place to look for stock photos. 🙂

  18. You are so right about photos making a difference in our articles. I always try to use relevant images in my blog posts, they catch peoples eye and make them stop to look instead of scrolling through lots and lots of text.

You know your niche well, thank you for taking the time to share with us, I will be bookmarking your site my friend.

    • Yes, David. I find a very hard time concentrating and I believe a lot of us are as well. Especially in recent years when our attention has been dropping to lower than a goldfish.

  19. Hello Anh,

Thank you so much for researching all these photo sites. I think you have done a great job putting this all together for your readers. I’m sure it took you quite some time. It’s a hassle trying to figure out which ones I can use and which ones I can’t. Now I know that these are all free and the only thing I have to know is do I have to attribute.

I think that many online business owners have a problem with finding images that they can use on their websites that are free. I have an affiliate marketing business and I really have a time finding the right images that I want. I wish I could find images that dealt with only with affiliate marketing! In my dreams right?!

Thanks Anh. I have put your site in my favorites so I can reference it again.
    Verna

    • Verna,

I am so happy you found the post helpful! I found a number of images related to business/ online businesses at Negative Space. Not all images has to be contextual, you always add some subtexts. I find looking at how sites like QuickSprout use images helps a lot in finding your own.

      All the best!

  20. Derek Marshall

Totally brilliant I current use freeimages.com

Which has thousands of free images to use, royalty free that is. But often not quite got that image that I need or want or quite fit in with my site and what I am writing.

Thanks for those other resources, definitively checking them out. Bookmarked this page for reference as getting that exact image can make a big difference.

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome, Derek! From my experience, finding the exact image among free or even paid stock photos can be pretty hard – depending on your subject, of course. What I always recommend is to opt for metaphors from time to time… if you know what I mean.

  21. Ket

OMG! My friend you have done me a great service here! I have been paying Canva for many of my stock photos and sometimes I have to use photos that aren’t even that good.

I Have two blogs so I always need images. I only have one question… which of these sites would you go to for pictures more related to food?

  22. alisonklingvall

Wow, what an amazing resource you’ve put together. Thank you.
I am always on the lookout for photos. I had really hoped to be able to create all of my visual content myself but it’s just not feasible sometimes, if I did it that way I’d be limiting my content somewhat.
I have heard of people getting into trouble by inadvertently infringing copyright laws to so you are very right, we need to check and double and double check.
Is there a way prove the source of a photo and something we need to do to cover ourselves when using Free photos?
    Alison

    • Anh Nguyen

Very good question, Alison. What I’d recommend is not to use photos from unreliable sources – Flickr is an example. Because everyone can post photos there the one who published it might not actually be the author.

What you can do is check the photo collections you are about to take from and ask yourself: do these look like they belong to one person or are they just random. Then again, you still have to rely on your guts when it comes to free photos. 🙁

      Hope this helps!

  23. bioelectrobot

I’m glad to see that you have listed creative commons first. Creative commons is such a great resource. As a software developer, I’ve turned all my development attention to open source projects. It’s so nice to be able to create and not have to worry about complex legal issues and frivolous financial issues. Thanks for posting the other resources. I’ve not heard of most of them and I will certainly make use of them. This article is incredibly practical and useful. Thanks for posting this information.

    • Anh Nguyen

Bioelectrobot, copyrights can give you pains later if you don’t look into them. I am so glad you find this helpful!

  24. Kams

What an amazing collection of free stock photos websites you’ve got here. you’ve done a fantastic work for this post, I’ll bookmark it for future reference. Could you recommend a website that offers a great choice in health niche? I’m sometimes struggling to find the right pic, or maybe I simply have to get more creative. 😉

    • Anh Nguyen

Kams, I am so glad to hear you learn new things from the post. I usually search photos on Pexels. Here are some I found on health. I found being creative and using metaphorical images help a deal as well. 🙂

  25. Jessica

This post is great! I have been taking all kinds of screen shots because I am so worried about messing up a copyright. This post is like gold because of all the places you have here to get photos. This must have taken you quite a while to compile but the effort is going to pay off big time in the end. Thank you.

    • Anh Nguyen

Wonderful, it’s great to hear you found what you are looking for, Jessica.

  26. Garen

I like to use Flickr a lot; it’s really a great site for finding good photos. I like to add a customized look to my websites with them too. So, what I typically do is go to pixlr and make some edits to the photo. Really gives you photos a nice touch. It’s a site for editing photos and you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on Photoshop 🙂

    • Agreed, Garen. I’ve always love well designed websites. 🙂 As for Photoshop, the CS2 version was released for free here. 🙂

  27. Hannah

    • Anh Nguyen

I am so happy to help, Hannah! It can be hard to find great resources sometimes, I am just happy I can give a hand.

  28. Lynne

Hey Anh, thanks for replying to my earlier comment. I have managed to have a look around a few of these stock photo websites now and I am absolutely loving them.
You know I spent a lot of time about 2 years back searching endlessly for websites for free photos that I could use and I really came up with nothing!
This is an incredible resource you have shared with us, thank you.

    • Anh Nguyen

I am so happy to hear, Lynne! I guess there are much more great free photos now than there are a couple years back, fortunatly. 🙂

  29. coughlanmaureen

I think this is a brilliant website. Thanks so much for sharing all those free stock photo sites. I had no idea there were so many of them. This information will be very handy for me when I am building my website.

You have so many beautiful images in this post and I like that you included the number of photos available on each site.

    Thanks again for sharing!!!

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome, Coughlanmaureen. I am just happy I can help. 😉

  30. Nicki

Oh my goodness. I had no idea there were so many choices for free photos. Thank you so much for this amazing list! I’m a professional blogger that needs to start using more imagery in posts. Everyone tells me that’s what’s missing. With so many choices though, where should I start? What is your go-to site?

  31. Lynne

    Hi Anh

Wow, thank you for sharing all these great resources for free stock photos!

I’m always on the hunt for places to find free images for my blogs and I have often ended up just paying for images.

I can’t wait to spend some time checking out all those free stock photo websites! I’ve bookmarked this, I think I will be finding this reference very handy!

    • Anh Nguyen

I’m very happy I to be of help, Lynne. These sites definitively worth a check out especially if you are a visual person. 🙂

  32. TheDopestMatrix

Its interesting how a lot of the sites are saying 10 new photos every ten days… is it like a marketing thing that they all copy from? Lol… Anyway, I checked out Unsplash and it seems really cool! I noticed they have a Kickstarter too so it looks like they are just starting! Maybe they will be the new medium for stock photos here soon!

    Matt TheDopestMatrix

    • Anh Nguyen

A lot of these sites offers original photos actually, Matt. And the curated sites really helps in putting them in one place so it’s good to know they are growing.

  33. TheDopestMatrix

I’ve actually heard of Pexels before, isn’t it a lot like Wiki Media? I think it’s pretty cool that they just do it for a donation. Honestly love it because I feel like it makes the site more attractive within itself. I might try it out and actually donate if they are good!

    Matt TheDopestMatrix

    • Anh Nguyen

I believe Pexels have more quality images than Wiki Media, Matt. And it’d be awesome to donate to such a helpful site. 🙂

  34. David

Very useful ressources that any serious blogger should have. I’ve added your page to my Pinterest collections and will refer to it next time I will search for quality photos to illustrate one of my blog posts! Good to mention the gallery size and the copyrights too. Thanks for sharing your discoveries with us!

    • Anh Nguyen

The pleasure is all mine, David. 😉

  35. Stanley

As I look at your article, I tell myself this website is so important to people like myself as I find 2 main valuable info:
    1. Number of websites that provide free pictures. How I wish I know your website much earlier so that I don’t need to look high and low for it.
    2. You have provide a list of successful people who made it via online business as well.
You have provided a very valuable info to us. Thank you.

    • Anh Nguyen

Your comment made my day, Stanley. It’s really my goal to provide as much value as I can and it’s great to hear I am on the right track.

  36. Matthew Thomas

This is an outstanding list of quality stock photo sites. We live in a visual world, and as a blogger, it’s difficult to find great images sometimes. Just look at the success of websites like Pinterest & Instagram, based almost completely on images. People are naturally visual-minded. Some of my favorites from your list are New Old Stock and Unsplash. Thanks for the additional resources!

    • Anh Nguyen

Definitively, Matthew. As Instagram see a much higher growth rate, you can see how we are more inclined to visuals. I am glad you found new resources through this post!

  37. Amanda M.

All I can say is WOW! I had no idea that there were so many such sites out there. You are definitely correct when you say images are more intriguing than text. I was very entertained scrolling down your page and viewing the excellent photos that you chose. I am for sure going to bookmark the site as a reference point as I am sure that I will be referring back to it. Great job and best of luck to you success!

    • Anh Nguyen

I am happy I can help, Amanda! I personally love visuals more than text so I lean more towards that in my contents. 🙂

  38. Tony

    Hi Anh,

What an incredible list of free stock photo sites. I would imagine that most possible bases / needs would be covered by looking over what you’ve got here.

Definitely a page to be bookmarked as a future tool.

Thank you for your investigation in writing this post!

I usually find that Pixabay is a great source but they don’t always have everything, so it’s good to have other choices.

    Cheers, Tony.

    • Anh Nguyen

Tony, Pixabay does have a great variety of photos but I prefer Pexels because their images are of higher quality, you might want to check it out. 🙂

  39. Funkydunc

    Hi Anh,

I really wanted to read this blog but it wouldn’t open. I twice clicked on the link to the blog, which took me to the home page. I then clicked on “continue reading” but all that opened was the photo of the man behind the lens.

This happened twice. I did wait for a while but nothing.

I hope to call back again in the future. It looks like a site with some good resource tools.

    Duncan

    • Anh Nguyen

Thanks so much for noticing me, Duncan. I rechecked the links and they seem to work now – I’ll try to look further into the issue though, I hope you found great stock photo resources in this list. 🙂

  40. Steven

Just what I needed! I find it so hard to find free pictures for my fitness website.

Do you know of any that specialise in free fitness photos as I really struggle on the exercise side of things.

Great work finding all these sites though going to flick through them all and add this page to my tool bar favourites.

    • Anh Nguyen

I am so happy you found this resource helpful! Here are some fitness photos I found.

It’s definitively quite a topic to find free stock photos, sometimes I think what helps is to put metaphorical pictures, if you know what I mean. 🙂

  41. Chris

I always find articles like these an awesome help for bloggers like me – I constantly run out of new and inventive images for my site ( mainly because the royalty free options have run out on me! ). Thanks ever so much for this – will be trying a few out today for a new blog post!

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome, Chris! I am so happy to help. 😉

  42. John

Thanks for this awesome post on 65 free stock photo sites!
I have found it hard to find free stock photos for my website blog in the past… at least any that were of any quality anyway!
Recently I have been using Pixabay, and have found them to be pretty good.
It is good to know there area a lot of other choices out there.
I will start checking out your recommendations!
    Great post 🙂
    ~John

    • Anh Nguyen

Great to hear, John. Sometimes it can be hard to find free stock photos. My favourite isPexels.com. You should definitively check that one out, they boast photos of great quality. 😉

  43. Terrance

Free stock photos? Anh, I never thought I would appreciate such article like this; but indeed it is needful. So many beautiful pictures I could gather for future themes of promotions, blogs, etc.

This article makes things simple and accessible where you clearly give a picture with a synopsis of the website offering the photos.

Also, I appreciate how you give particular themes for one to sort out.

    Good article indeed!

    • Anh Nguyen

Always happy to help, Terrance! I hope you find the right photos for your blog.

  44. Barry

I have bookmarked your site because you have put a lot of info out there. I can’t digest it all in one sitting. I will be coming back to study the subject matter.
I was aware of stock photos available but didn’t know there were so many of them. Are they “searchable”? I would like to be able to find photos without going through a million of them.
I like the idea of stats on the page, just so they don’t get too boring to read. Yours make good sense and did not bore me. I would like to see darker print, however. My tired eyes had trouble reading the light text.
Very informative and I will be back. Thank you for doing this.

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome to hear, Barry. A lot of these sites are searchable, I wrote that down when they are so you can easily hit Ctrl + F to search. I usually just use Pexels.com myself, they have a lot of great photos there and you can search by keywords and colours.

P.S. I’ll take care of the print. 🙂

  45. Anne Line

Hello, I love to take picture, so I only use my own photos on my website. I have search for free photos but most of them are bad. So this was good information. A very helpful post, thank you.

    Anne Line

    • Always happy to help! Taking your own photos is definitively a nice touch. 🙂

  46. Riaz Shah

    Hey there Anh,
Wow this is a very detailed list, 65 is a huge number I can’t imagine how long it took you to compile all of these – perhaps one week? Awesome work, so glad that there are many free stock photo sites today! It used to be so hard last time that we have to opt into buying photos instead which was very costly especially for beginner blogs. Bookmarked your site, will definitely be coming back here to check out your upcoming posts. Cheers!

    • Anh Nguyen

I am so happy to hear you enjoy the post, Riaz. It took me about 2 weeks for this one, I just love working on ambitious contents. 🙂

These photographers definitively help us out a deal and, I own that to them because paid stocks are rather expensive.

  47. Ladrunner

Bookmarked! I’m always looking for websites that give free pictures due to the risk of copyright claims. Thanks for providing this humongous list. I’ve just been using Pixabay, and I love the site, but sometimes it just doesn’t have the pictures I need. Hopefully, some of these other sites have pictures that I can implement onto my website.

    • Anh Nguyen

I sure hope they do, Ladrunner. I usually use Pexels.com, they offer a great variety of high quality photos. 🙂

  48. Diana

Wow, I didn’t know there were so many options available to find free images for my site. Usually I use one site, and if I can’t find any relevant image to my post, I have no choice but to post an article without images. I will definitely be taking a look at a few of these sites to see if I find anything I like.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Diana

    • Anh Nguyen

I am happy to hear I can help, Diana! Pictures helps a lot in catching the readers’ attention, I hope you found the some you can use on the list.

  49. Marcus

You see, this is one of the reasons why it is so difficult to make money as a photographer these days. With so many free stock libraries around offering great photos, not as many people are going to be prepared to pay money for stock photos anymore.

Of course, this is great news for website owners, because it means you can get some great free photos for your blogs and web pages. And as anyone who is starting up an online business will tell you, anywhere that you can save money is great.

    • Anh Nguyen

I love your view point, Marcus. It can definitively be a downside for photographers, however these free stocks does have their week point as there are quite a few topics they do not cover.

And I think it’s also a choice for these photographers to give their photos for free regardless of the industry as a whole.

  50. Hannah

I’ve never heard of most of these sites, but they look pretty good anyway. I will bookmark this page for the next time I need images for a blog post. It’s sometimes very difficult to get images for my niche for free.

Thanks for sharing these excellent resources with us. This is a big help.

    Hannah.

    • Anh Nguyen

Great to hear, Hannah. I am always happy to help. 🙂

  51. Moritz

Wow, I am so happy I found your site and especially this post!
It can be very hard to find high quality images in my niche (archery), so I am thankful for any resource I can find.

Your post should be bookmarked by everybody who needs free stock photos on a regular bases.
I know I did bookmark it and will check out all those sites to find photos for my future posts.

Thanks for that great overview. I am sure it took quite a while to find all of those sites.

    Moritz

    • Anh Nguyen

Happy to hear, Moritz. You can say it’s two birds that kills one stone because I do need the photos myself. Archery is sure a category that doesn’t have a lot of free photos, if I were you I’d probably use a lot of photos in a metaphorical way.

  52. Hasmiza

    Hi Anh,

This is really good work and worthy to bookmark this page. It will guide us in using photos ethically, since now we are know that which are the photos freely to use with/without require the attributions.

Previously, I’m using photos from one or two resources, now from this page, there are a lot of resource’s site as reference, in order to get the quality photos. Well done.

    Regards,

    Hasmiza

    • Anh Nguyen

I am happy to help, Hasmiza!

  53. Sammy

This is a very informative post. Thank you for sharing. A photo is very important for a blog post. I am looking for some free photo while I am learning to take my own photo too. Do you take your own photo? I always receive a comment about my photo have some lighting issue. This is like an Encyclopedia for the photo. Will definitely bookmark this and drop by again in future.

    • Anh Nguyen

I haven’t used any photos I took for my site except screenshots, Sammy. I hope you find a way to fix the lightning!

  54. Robert

    Wooow! So many photo sites!

I had no idea there were quite so many. Every image is telling a story too; you know I’m sure it’s possible just to get lost in a photo site imagining them all. These are amazing resources for bloggers, so thanks very much for digging them all out and putting them in a list.

    ~Robert.

    • Anh Nguyen

Very poetic, Robert. But I agree with you every photo holds a story. 🙂

  55. Bo the Webguy

You are right on! Pictures on Blog Posts really help the interaction and stickiness. Thanks for all of these photo resources. WOW! I had only heard of a couple of these sites before. Now off to find the time to review these sites… Which is your favorite stock photo website? Do you have a preference?

  56. adam

    Hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to make such a helpful page. Finding photos for my site can be a difficult task, like you said there either low quality or cost too much. The links you’ve provided will be very helpful and make it a lot easier. Keep up the good work.

    • Anh Nguyen

Thanks Adam, I am happy to help!

  57. Raphael Ali

I really liked the vibrant colors and the captions beneath every picture. That made the page seem alive. Anyone could appreciate what Anh has done professional, amateur or just someone who’s interested in taking a visual journey around the world. It’s also valuable resource to find stock photos for any website, blog or what ever your purpose, and I especially liked the slideshow on most of the photos.

    • Anh Nguyen

Love your appreciation for design. I’m very crazy about making things as good looking as I can. 🙂

  58. Kevin

    Hi Ahn

This is a truly fabulous resource that you have put together here .
I am somewhat stunned at the number of places where we can get images for our web-sites. Currently I use 3 sites for all my images but I will be checking out your recommendations.
I have bookmarked this for future reference (of course !) and thank you so very much for providing such a valuable resource for us all.

    Kind regards

    Kevin

  59. Raquel

Wow, Anh! This is awesome! Will definitely bookmark this. Very very helpful as we all look for images to put in our sites. Needed to look for more relevant stock photos, and its so timely that I came across your post. As you know, relevant images bring more life to posts. Thank you again! 🙂

  60. Ehab

    Hello there,

I just came, here again, to say this blog post is amazing and I am returning to it every day from time to time to search for new images for my website, and regarding the resize problem it was setting issue as I was choosing thumbnail which is 150*150 and too small, thanks again for this amazing article

    • Anh Nguyen

Great to hear you found the solution for your images, Ehab. You are welcome here any time. 🙂

  61. CannaGary

    Anh,
Wow what an impressive listing of pure gold when it comes to working online.
Thanks so much, although I have been able to always locate decent pictures to go with my writing it can be a huge loss of time.
As they say time is money so having access to 65 Stunning Free Stock Photo Sites has afforded me a wonderful new resource!! I bookmarked you and thanks again for the awesome post,

    Gary

    • Anh Nguyen

Yes, I know I take quite a bit of time for the photos, it’s a pleasure to help!

  62. Raphael Ali

I love photography, so this an absolute pleasure to comment on. I really liked the interactive slideshow, and I really appreciated the info on the 65 sites to get free stock is a valuable resource for photographers and those looking for stock pictures online. I got some great ideas from this website that I can incorporate into my future sites.

    • Anh Nguyen

      Glad to hear, Rapheal.

  63. Sonia

    Hi Anh,

I have bookmarked your post. Because, I find it difficult to find good quality photos for my website. My website is about African safaris, and pretty much for each post that I write, I spend more time trying to find related pictures for my posts than writing my posts! So your site will be very useful for my future posts!

When an attribution is required, how do you write the attribution? Do you write, for instance, the name of the person and link that to its site or the license for the images?

    Thanks,

    Sonia

    • Anh Nguyen

Sonia, I can definitively relate, sometimes it’s hard to find nice looking photos. For African safaris, Photo Collections is a great resource.

When attribution is required, you just need to write the name of the person and a link to their site or profile.

      Always happy to help!

  64. Julie

This list is a godsend! I’ve slowly been working on a new blog and I’ve been having such a tough time looking for the perfect images. Stock photos are notoriously bad, and the ones you’ve dug up are just gorgeous. I also want to commend you on really going through the effort of sorting these out and categorizing them. Makes it so much easier when I don’t have to keep looking up random keywords into the search bar. Could you suggest some of your top sites from the list?

    • Anh Nguyen

You comment made my day, Julie, I am very happy I can help. I usually look for photos at Pexels. 😀

  65. Ray

Just as everyone else is commenting…. this is a great list! I’ve also bookmarked this site. I love photography but when it comes to putting up on the website, I spend hours sometimes trying to choose royalty free images, or purely just like to view good photographs. Really, some photos are stunning. Thank you!

    • Anh Nguyen

Agreed, Ray. Photos can take you to places. 😉

  66. Ian

This is by far the most exhaustive list of free stock photo sites that I have every come across. Well done! I bookmarked your page and this is definitely a valuable resource for anyone building up their website.

There are also apps for photographers to submit their own stock photos either for free or to sell such as Eyeem, Twenty20, Getty Images, etc.

    • Anh Nguyen

Ian, I am so happy to help!

I haven’t heard of those apps, gotta check them out. 😉

  67. JeremyDavidWilson.com

    Hello Anh,

Now you have truly “hit the nail on the head” with this article! So many people out there, including myself, have spent countless hours sifting through cheesy stock photos for our content, blogs, etc. and I would say it’s one of the questions I see the most… “where do I get good visuals for my content?”

Looks like you’ve really done your homework here and I like it so much that I’m going to start referring people to your article when they ask the above question, as it is truly valuable!

    Great work my friend!

    All The Best,

    Jeremy David Wilson

    • Anh Nguyen

I definitely struggled a little myself finding photos in the beginning. As I want to save up, I needed to find some great resources for free stock photos. I am very grateful for these great photographers, they are the awesome ones. 🙂

  68. Tanya

Wow! What an amazing list of free stock photos. Thank you so much for putting this resource together. I have bookmarked it. I am always looking for free images to use on my website but I have only been going to 3 or 4 websites. I didn’t realize that there were so many options available.

    • Anh Nguyen

It can be a little bit tricky to find great free stock photo sites, Tanya. Glad I can help! 🙂

  69. Christian

This is a great list, Anh. I’ve bookmarked this page for future reference and I’m sure it’s going to come in really handy.

I usually just run by flickr to find something that I don’t have of my own, but as you mentioned, the owners of the copyright over there usually require attribution. In most cases for me, that works out OK, but there are some cases where it is not convenient.

Now I have a broader band to search, Thanks again.

    • Anh Nguyen

Gotcha, Christian. Another thing that I forgot to mention about Flickr is that some of their images not not actually belong to the user who posted it so you gotta be careful too!

  70. FifthJune

    Wow Anh!
Such a fabulous website for me to navigate through for photos
Btw you have such clear and precise photo for us to see through love it alot!
I didn’t realize that there is so many sites for it
    Totally so cool
Keep up the good work will stay tune to your website!

    Cheers
    Rick

    • Anh Nguyen

Great to hear, Rick. Hope I can help you some!

  71. Paul

Wow, Anh, this is an impressively large collection of free stock photo websites you’ve provided here. Thanks! The problem I have is that photos with lax licenses like CC0 don’t tend to be specialized/specific enough for my purposes (a lot of nature, landscapes, general stuff). I mostly use images licensed with CC BY. I will definitely check out some of the sites that you’ve listed here. Thanks again.

    • Anh Nguyen

I get you, Paul. I experience that at first too. Among this large list, you can find business, food, technology among other themed photos. Hope that helps! 🙂

  72. Tom

First off, just wow! I never knew there were so many options! I may have to think about using some of these on my own websites. Media definitely helps add a lot to a website, and knowing where we can get some without having to worry as much about copyright issues is a great help.

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome, Tom. It definitely does seeing it’s quite expensive to spend on stock photos.

  73. Dan

BRILLIANT website! I have subscribed to your email list because the content you provide is actually useful!

I do have a question: is it possible to create your own graphics for your website quite easily? For example if I want to create an infographic or a logo? Do you know how I might go about doing this?

    Great job!

    Dan.

    • Anh Nguyen

      I’m flattered, Dan!

To create graphics such as blog images or posters, you can use Canva, they also offers some infographics templates but I do believe if you want to create great infographics, the best way is to hire a designer, same goes with logos. You can do that at Fiverr (around $5 so they are not extraordinary) or PeopleperHour ($50 – $200 much better).

      Hope that helps. 🙂

  74. Sean

    Hi Anh,

Flippin’ heck, that’s a lot of free pics! Wasn’t even aware that there were so many free stock pic sites in existence to be honest. 🙂

I was finding it so hard to find good free images, which makes sense I guess, only fair that one should pay for quality.

However, now I might be more inclined to browsing through a few of these sites, before purchasing images!

When you mention ‘attribution required’, what do you mean? Do you just mention the photographer’s name?

    Thanks,

    Sean

    • Anh Nguyen

Happy to help, Sean. It can be costly to spend on paid stock for sure.

Attribution required means that you need to give credit to the author by adding their name and linking to their page wherever you post their photos. 🙂

  75. Daniella

    Hi there,

Awesome article and really helpful! I needed this article for my website, I always search everywhere to find pictures and the only one I knew was Pixabay, which I really love. The pictures are beautiful and it’s easy to use. Now that I saw your article, I will definitely try these sites. In fact, I have bookmarked your website. 🙂

    Thank you very much.

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome, Daniella. The more, the merrier.

  76. RJ

Thanks so much for compiling all of these free online photo sites. I have a list of about 3 that I use which isn’t really cutting it for me anymore. I can’t wait to dig into all of the sites you list to enhance the experience on my site. I’ve shared your page as well.

    • Anh Nguyen

I know how it can be tedious when you can’t find good images, happy to help!

  77. Chuck

I never realized there are so many sites that will give you such beautiful high resolution stock photos. With such a variety it is easy to enhance our site to make it look professional to increase sales. The sites all seem to have their own niches. My only problem is that I spend too much time admiring the photos.
I think we have to be careful to not distract our prospects with too many photos. Pictures of this quality and variety for free? What could be better? Do you have just a few favorite sites?

    • Anh Nguyen

My favourite is Pexels, Chuck. 🙂

  78. dorina62

I would not have imagined that there are so many websites with photos, thank you for sharing with us. I saved this link.

  79. Michael Baker

Great website and great images, I will certainly be returning to your site for images and reference points that I can use for my business. I notice you have a lot of comments, especially about using Pixabay, I will certainly be saving your site to my favourites so I can let all my friends and colleagues know about it, keep up the good posts and I will look out for more. Thanks a million.

    Michael

    • Anh Nguyen

That’s nice of you, Micheal! I don’t prefer Pixabay myself because there are other sites with better quality photos but it’s does offer a lot of variety.

  80. netp

Hi, I am amazed, literally. What an amazing and exhaustive list. I knew about literally… a handful of these. This couldn’t have come for a better time for me, I’ve been desperately searching for more free stock photos. I’ve bookmarked your page and will be coming back again and again for this. THANK YOU!!!!

    • Anh Nguyen

Ha ha, always happy to help!

  81. Kyle

May I just say, this is the hands down best resource I have ever seen for finding photos to populate a post with. My hat goes off to you good sir.

You mentioned a little bit about copy right law and attribution, do you have any info on how to adequately give credit to creators of photos when attribution is required. I know sites like Flickr often require to give attribution.

    Thanks for the awesome resource.

    • Anh Nguyen

Kyle, giving attributions means you write the source down when you use the photo. It usually goes like this (Source: PHOTOGRAPHER’S NAME) with a link to their site or profile. 🙂

  82. Joon

You’re awesome!! Ha ha, I’ve been trying to find out more free pics sites to use for my websites. And so far I only knew about 3 different websites and only one of them was semi useful. I’ve been so limited with choices of my pics but your content is overflowing with great websites! I love it!

    Thank you so much!

    • Anh Nguyen

      Aw, it’s a pleasure, Joon.

Thank you for writing this post.

Finding photo’s has always been a pain for me, and I eventually bought a cheap yearly subscription in desperation to one of the stock sites. This makes life much easier for me when writing my blog posts, but hey free is much better. I will definitely be visiting this post again in the future.

    • Anh Nguyen

You can bookmark some of the good stock photo sites to get back to when you need. I know how it can be hard to find the photos you need. Happy I can help. 🙂

  84. John

  85. stefan

Hi there! Wow I didn’t know there was so many options for stock photos ! I am using only Pixabay but sometimes I don’t find the right image for my website. I need to have other options as well and I think with this selection you have solved my problem!

I like Pixabay because I don’t need to use attribution, but if the photo is really cool I actually don’t mind. After all, the artists deserves the credit for their job.

    Thanks for that.

    Stefan

    • Anh Nguyen

Agreed on the attributions, Stefan. You are in luck though, because most of these sites doesn’t require it.

  86. Aaron

Definitely bookmarking this! Amazing resource of stock photos, you must have spent a LOT of time researching this to find that many sources of free stock photos! • Anh Nguyen

Gotcha, Jay! I used to have a hard time too. 🙂

  88. Maureen

Finding good photos for a site can be an all day search, sometimes even longer. I usually end up buying since I haven’t had much luck with freebie pics.
I think today you have made my search for pics a whole lot easier. Some of these sites I was familiar with but the others you have introduced in this article are going to be quite helpful.
Thanks for a wonderful resource Anh!

  89. Kavinah

    Hi
I like the first line of your blog: visuals being process faster than text, 60000 times.
I never imagined there being so many sites offering free photo resources. This is an eye opener.

I have used Death to the Stock Photo.

Thanks for sharing this great resource.
I will definitely be visiting these sites.
I will share your site with others to.

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome, Kavinah. I am always happy to help. 🙂

  90. I never imagined there being so many sites offering free photo resources.
Thanks for sharing this great resource.
I will definitely be visiting these sites.
I will share your site with others to.

    Kav

    • Kav, it’s pretty amazing how many great stocks are out there, isn’t it?

      • It’s a bit confused here.
I clicked on Pexels and visited the site to download images but it is not free.
        Please clarify.

        Kav

        • Pexels is a collection of free stock photos, Kav. You can click on any images you want to download then click on the “Download For Free” button on the top right corner. They do ask for donations but you can have the images for free. Let me know if you need anything else.

          Cheers!

  91. dauphinbleu

    Hi Anh!

Thanks a lot for sharing this long list of websites that offer free stock photos. This is really helpful indeed. Honestly, I didn’t know that photos we take from the internet might be subject to copyright protection.

It was only last month I was having this thought and trying to find some information about the use of picture we got from the internet. I found a post where someone said she got sued by a website under the accusation of using copyright picture.

Ever since, I’ve become more careful in picking up images for my website. Thanks for sharing this valuable information. It’s really helpful indeed.

    • Anh Nguyen

Photos uploaded on the internet can still be copyrighted to it’s owner, it’s great you done your research, Dauphinbleu. While all these photos are free to use, some of them may require attributions so do take note of that too. 🙂

  92. Cathy

    Hi there Anh,

I am please to see that you have listed Unsplash as your top 5 free stock photo sites. I have contemplated buying images for my blog post, but as I am running my online business on a shoestring budget, every dollar counts.

I came across Unsplash through a website and sign up for their newsletter out of curiosity. Every week, I get beautiful and professional pictures send to my email and the fact that attribution is not required, makes it very easy to use them on my blog.

I love the quality that it gives to my blog posts and I hope they will continue to be free for as long as the internet last. 🙂

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome to hear, Cathy! I definitely love images from Unsplash, they are gorgeous.

  93. Tim

    Hey Anh,

Thanks so much for putting together such a useful and informative resource! 🙂 I really love the layout of your site, and your commitment to authenticity, ethics and honesty!!! 🙂
I’m starting to find more and more awesome people like yourself who are totally real within this community, as opposed to some of the more shady characters!! 🙂
I really want to be like you, and the other honest, real people I’ve experienced via WA!
So thank you for inspiring me, and for being a great resource! 🙂

    All the best,

    Tim

    • Anh Nguyen

      Tim,

I believe in building meanings more than profit. I used to try to make money in a more shady way but it doesn’t work with my ethics. I am happy to hear your aspirations and wish you all the best! 😀

  94. Andres Santos

Wow thanks! Great job on finding these sites. You can never have enough image resources, free ones at that. I’ve used an handful of these, but didn’t realize there were so many. Adding the copyright info helps in deciding whether to check it our or not. I like the one that give you total freedom. I forgot to attribute one photo once and caught hell for it lol.

    • Anh Nguyen

Great to hear, Andres! Fortunately there are a great deal of photos that doesn’t require attributions.

  95. chrisleevella@gmail.com

    Hi there Anh, 🙂

I’ve bookmarked this page so I can check it out the next time I need a stock photo.

I have used companies like these before (Big Stock) but now I use Canva for pictures I need created.

I sometimes do need quality stock photos to go with Canva so your list is surely gonna come in handy soon.

    Many thanks. 🙂

    CLV

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome to hear Chris, I also use Canva to edit pictures.

Come to think about it, it’s also a large free stock photo collection. Will add it to the list. 🙂

  96. Robin Sawyer

Wow! This is a goldmine! and so many high resolution, beautiful images. There are a couple of these sites that I had been using, but I had nearly run out of images that fit the topic of my site.

It must have taken you quite a while to find all these or have you just been saving them as you found them for a while. In any case, thank you!

    Robin

    • Anh Nguyen

Robin, I compiled them at once, it does take a bit of time. 🙂

  97. Karissa

    Hello,

I love the quality and amount of pictures you use on your site, they really capture your attention. I also think it was a great idea for you to add the slideshows!

    Thanks!!

  98. Igor

    Hello!

Great post! Exactly what I needed. I have been using some sites for a while but it feels like I exhausted them so I need some new and fresh resources.

Well, I don`t know whether visuals are processed so much faster but I do know that it is true. It is always necessary to use visuals and it always make things look much better.

Thanks for sharing such a great info!

  99. cutepackagingbeautyproducts

Your list of sites to go to look for free images is a life-saver, so I am definitely going to bookmark this page for further use. Thanks for the great post, cheers!

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome to hear! I know it can be hard to find free images. 🙂

  100. Manu

  102. Xander

    Hey there Anh,

Just wanted to say thanks for saving me a ton of time and making life a little easier. I’m new to the blogging world and it is really hard to find quality free pics when you have no idea where to start.

Now I have a ton of resources to choose from.

    Thanks again.

    • Anh Nguyen

I know what you mean, Xander. I had to search around a little for photos too. Cheers!

  103. grln

    Hi there!
WOW. Just wow. This is a really great place to find sites with amazing pics! All the pics were absolutely gorgeous and when I say gorgeous, I mean so gorgeous that you can’t just look at one spot of the picture. I literally navigate through the whole image, through every detail of the image as if I was in that very place passing through. It’s so amazing that pics can do that to someone. I am truly astounded by how I never saw that until I passed through your site.

    • Anh Nguyen

Your comment made my day, Grln! I felt the same when I compile them, these are amazing photographers.

  104. Jeremy

    Hey Anh.

This is an awesome resource that you have provided for all of us!

I’m new to blogging and am just starting to realize the importance of the visual aspect of a website.

I never knew that there were so many sites out there with free stock photos.

Thanks for putting this list together.

    ~ Jeremy

    • Anh Nguyen

My pleasure, Jeremy. Visual content does make your much more readable.

  105. Kasia

    Hi Anh,

I always appreciate a great post on useful tools for bloggers and free photo being one of them. I can’t tell you how much time I’ve spent looking for great free pictures. Sometimes it really frustrates me because images are very important for any blog. I just don’t want to spend a lot of time searching for them so it’s a fantastic news that you’ve put all the websites in one place. I’ll definitely be checking every one of them. 🙂

    Many thanks!

    Kasia

    • Anh Nguyen

Kasia, it may take a while to go through them all, but I can assure you it’s an interesting experience. 🙂

  106. Eric Thompson

A much needed resource Anh. I’m always concerned when I download images from the public domain because sometimes it’s difficult to tell whether they are copyright free or not. And the good thing about the resources you have on your page is the 65 different sites links are all on one page which makes it an easy bookmark.

This resource will definitely help me in the future and I’m sure others will benefit from it too.

    Excellent page,

    Eric

    • Anh Nguyen

Always my pleasure to be of help. 🙂

These sites do publicly give their photos for free to use, but remember some of them require attributions.

  107. Lee Zhi Wei

I’ve been looking for images in Google all my life without citations until I stumbled upon Wealthy Affiliates. I was told that it was actually illegal to copy images & posting them on my blog without some sort of reference.

With all these reviews of photo galleries from your end, I could safely copy and paste without worries!

    Thank you!

    • Anh Nguyen

      Zhi Wei, happy to help!

These images are indeed free of copyrights and you can put them on your website. However, remember that some of the may require attributions.

      Cheers!

  108. That’s a huge list Anh. It must have taken you a lot of work to compile. 😉
I use freedigitalphotos.net so thanks for making this list that adds more to mine.

Hope you are having a wonderful week.

    • It does take a bit of time, Enstine. But I’m a perfectionist so that works out just fine. 🙂

freedigitalphotos.net is a nice resource, I’ll be sure to add it to the list soon!

  109. Alex

Wow. I have just bookmarked your post! I am a blogger and I agree with you that posts with images are always more popular as compared to those with just dull and boring words.

I went through your list and found Pixabay is not in there. I always grab free images from Pixabay and I wonder if I missed anything? Let me know. 🙂

    • Anh Nguyen

Pixabay is in the list, Alex. 🙂 I have found some more ressources and will add in sometime in the future.

      • My bad, I just noticed that. Thanks again for sharing this post. I am back here to grab more sites from your list. It makes my life easier!

  110. Leland

Love, love, LOVE that you did this! Was sure to send it out to all my Twitter followers! I am a huge fan of free stuff on the internet and I’m always looking for good content to share with my readers, this is one of those reads worthy of spreading around.

It’s obvious you took a lot of time and effort to put this page together for all to use, your efforts won’t go without notice!

Thanks again for putting together a wonderful resource of links to a bunch of really great royalty-free picture sources!

    • Anh Nguyen

Really glad you like it, Leland. 😀 I know how tedious it can be to find good free photos at first, I’m happy if I can make someone’s life easier.

      Cheers!

  111. Boniface

    Hi Anh,

What a great post! Certainly information that i’ll revisit and use. I have in the past particularly lacked a good source of such photos/ images. I know have 65 more options to check out and that’s truly amazing.

Thanks a lot for your information.

Are there image types in those websites that could be used as blog banners/ headers?

    • Anh Nguyen

      Great to hear, Boniface!

All of these photos are free to use for whatever purpose, including banners. But some of them require attributions so do check before use.

      Cheers!

  112. Tom

Thank you so much for this list of free stock photo sites Anh. I appreciate the work you put in to compile it.

I have been searching the web for new images to use in my articles. It is wonderful to have so many sources in one place. I booked mark the page for easy reference so I will be looking at it often.

    Tom

    • Anh Nguyen

      Happy to help, Tom. 🙂

  113. Chris

This is a great resource for bloggers like myself as I’m always getting stuck with running out of images. Take Pixabay for example – I’ve used it so often I’ve actually run out of decent food related images to use on my blog. About 99% of the sites you’ve listed below are new to me so thanks a bunch for this – a great big helping hand!

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome to hear, Chris! The downside of free stock photos is the directories don’t usually cover a wide range of topics, instead you have many small sites here and there. For food photos, you can find at http://foodiesfeed.com/.

  114. Alblue

Wow this is an amazing list Anh. Thank you so much! I’ve been using 3 sources so far: Pexel, Pixabay, and Google Image Search with Reuse License.

I have bookmarked your page here so I can come back again in the future if I need specific type of photos. I never thought that there are so many free stock photos sites out there. Thanks again. 🙂

    • Anh Nguyen

      Always happy to help, Alblue.

  115. khan

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing this useful information. I have been looking this information since very long because I am very afraid of using copyright material.

Images makes our site professional and reduce bounce rate. Please suggest us which site is your favorite?

Again thanks for sharing this information and keep writing such great content.

    • Anh Nguyen

Great to hear from you, Khan. My favourite is Pexels (the first one!) 🙂

  116. Jovo

Hi, this is really a valuable source, worth bookmarking, you have done a great job here. So what you give as numbers implies photos only? Not images in general? I am asking because I use some of those you suggested here, like Pixabay. You mentioned over 600 for this particular source. I do not know if this is a correct information, perhaps yes if it is about photos, but I am sure that they have almost infinite number of images in general. Thank you.

    • Anh Nguyen

Jovo, you are as observant as usual. I made a mistake with Pixabay, they actually have more than 490,000 images, I am counting everything on the page inclusing vectors and illustrations.

  117. Samantha

Thanks for sharing this! I’m always on the lookout for great free stock photos for my blog, so I’ll definitely bookmark this list and refer to it often.

Do you know if most of these sites are searchable?

Isn’t it fantastic how good free stock photos are now? I remember the days when the quality and composition were not this good!

    • Anh Nguyen

Samantha, I’m glad you found the post helpful. A lot of the sites are searchable, I mention it in the description when they are.

I agree that free stock photos are becoming more and more better! 🙂

  118. Ehab

    Hello Anh,

Great post & wonderful pictures I am always using Wiki Common for free pictures but always they are bad resolution those are amazing photos, but I have a question when I upload this photos to my website they will not be resized by WordPress?

Thanks for sharing just informative post.

    Ehab

    • Anh Nguyen

Ehab, the photos will not always resize, and most of these are high-resolution photos so they will be heavy. I recommend you use a program to resize them like BIRME.

      Cheers!

  119. Josh

    Hey Anh,

The list you have here is exhaustive. I never knew there were so many free stock images out there.

I usually only have been using Pixabay for all my stock images but with so many options that you’ve provided I am definitely going to take a look around.

This is most helpful post & I’ve bookmarked it for future reference too. Thanks for the informative post.

    • Anh Nguyen

Glad I can help, Josh. There are all things on the Internet, as they say. 🙂

  120. Debra

Boy, are you correct that images make a huge difference! Just scrolling down on your website page was so exciting – invigorating! The photos you selected are magnificent. And the information you’ve provided – thank you so much – for taking the time to share so many useful sites to find pics – I’ve bookmarked your site and will use it countless times I’m sure!

    • Anh Nguyen

Awesome to hear, Debra! Thank you so much for the kind praises.

  121. Jason

Hello Anh and thank you for this informative article. After reading all 65 different free photo websites, I came to realize that these could really come in handy when I’m working on my sites and need free photos. I’ve personally used Pexel before but I’m definitely looking into the rest. As a matter of fact, I made sure I bookmarked your page. Thanks again Anh.

    • Anh Nguyen

      My pleasure, Jason. 🙂
